President Deni’s Planned Trip to Mogadishu is Encouraging, says United Nations

United Nations has welcomed news that President Said Deni of Puntland plans to travel to Mogadishu to meet with President Mohamed Farmaajo and leaders of federal member states.

The United Nations hailed the move only 72 hours after President Deni announced it publicly at the end of the Puntland Consultative Conference.

The uncertainty of the relationships between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) has worsened and grown increasingly acrimonious.

However, the unprecedented move that President Deni made on Thursday has brought a new wave of optimism that the two parties could be about to patch up their differences.

Deni’s trip to Mogadishu is designed to help establish a “consultative forum” that brings all stakeholders together to discuss the future of the Horn of Africa nation.

UN made its views known through its Special Envoy to Somalia, James Swan. The Special Envoy has often requested FGS and FMS to come together to discuss issues affecting the country.
