President-Elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has hailed the role that Turkey continues to play in Somalia.
The newly-elected President of Somalia spoke to a Turkish media outlet on May 17.
During his interview with Anadolu Agency, President-Elect Mohamud commended Turkey for “touching the hearts and minds of Somalis.”
The interview was the first by Mohamud to an international media outlet since winning the presidential elections held on Sunday, May 15.
He further commended Turkey for “saving many lives throughout Somalia.”
Specifically, Mohamud mentioned the support Turkey offers in the educational sector, which he called an investment in Somalia’s human capital.
Turkey has also been providing high-level training to Somali National Army (SNA) personnel.
He appealed to the Turkish government to support his administration in the fight against Al-Shabaab and other terrorist organizations in Somalia.
