The Federal Government of Somalia has called for the immediate closure of all religious schools in the country to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Somalia’s Ministry for Religious Endowment made this announcement on Monday. It ordered teachers in the religious schools to abide by the directive.
The ministry said the schools are to remain closed for the next two weeks. It has also suspended the activities of all informal religious learning centers.
Somalia has implemented several measures designed to stop COVID-19 from spreading further in the country.
Sheikh Nur Mohamed Hussein, the minister in charge of the country’s Religious Endowment, said, “The government has ordered all Quranic Schools to remain closed for two weeks.”
He said this move is part of government’s efforts to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the Horn of Africa nation.
The closure comes a few weeks after the government suspended all forms of formal learning in the country as measures for curbing spread of Coronavirus.
