On January 11, 2025, Somaliland’s President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, appointed 23 new regional governors and their deputies through Presidential Decree No. JSL/XM/WM/222-027/012025.
This move is part of the new WADDANI political party administration’s efforts to strengthen regional governance.
Notably, the Sanaag and Maroodijeeh regions retained their current governors, as did the Saahil deputy governor.
The appointed officials were instructed to assume their roles within three days, as announced by Presidential Spokesman Hussein Adam Igeh.
Some of the key appointments include:
1) Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Adaad as Governor of Maroodijeeh
2) Muhummed Hasan Jama (Hoday) as Governor of Awdal
3) Mohamed Daahir Abdalla Gaafane as Governor of SaahilM
4) Mohamoud Ali Suleiman (Ramaah) as Governor of Togdeer
5) Ahmed Faarah Osmaan Abdi as Governor of Sool
6) Mohamed Abdillaahi Jaama (Bookh) as Governor of Gebilay
7) Prof. Ahmed Abdillaahi Mohamed (Degayare) as Governor of Saraar
8) Abdi Saeed Faahiye Allaale as Governor of Salal
9) Abdisalaan Maohmed Hasan Mohamed as Governor of Badan
10) Mohamoud Hasan Suleiman (Doob) as Governor of Hawd
11) Fuad Abdi Diiriye Mohamed as Governor of Haysimo
12) Mustafe Ibraahim Axmed Faarah as Governor of Buuhoodle
These appointments reflect President Irro’s commitment to enhancing administrative efficiency and addressing regional needs across Somaliland.
