Djibouti City, Djibouti – As part of his 48-hour official visit to Djibouti, the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, led a high-level delegation to the headquarters of Djibouti Telecom, the nation’s key operator managing the undersea fiber optic cable network linking the Horn of Africa to the global internet infrastructure.
President Irro and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Djibouti’s Minister of Information and Communication, Ridwan Abdilahi Bahdoon, and the Director General of Djibouti Telecom.
The visit sought to deepen cooperation between the two neighbors in the fields of telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and regional connectivity.
During the visit, President Irro received a detailed briefing on the operational framework and strategic importance of Djibouti’s fiber optic systems. He also toured the facility, observing firsthand the technological backbone that supports regional internet access.
Both sides discussed opportunities to collaborate on expanding digital infrastructure and improving interconnectivity across the Horn of Africa, with particular focus on supporting innovation, economic growth, and cross-border communication.
President Irro’s visit underscores Somaliland’s commitment to enhancing its technological capabilities and forging stronger regional partnerships in the digital era.
