The decision by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to replace Yusuf Madale as the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Benadir region comes as a huge shock considering their close friendship.
A communiqué from Villa Somalia on Tuesday evening shows that President Mohamud replaced Madale with Mohamed Ahmed Amiir, a decision that marks a significant shift in leadership.
Madale, a close ally of the President, served in this role during both of Mohamud’s terms, playing a critical role in the administration of Somalia’s capital.
Amiir, the newly appointed Mayor, will now oversee Mogadishu’s security, development, and governance amid ongoing challenges, including the fight against Al-Shabaab and urban planning issues.
This change reflects the President’s possible strategic adjustment to address pressing concerns in Mogadishu and the broader Benadir region.
