President of Ethiopia’s Somali Region Supports Deployment of Soldiers in Tigray

Mustafe Mohamed Omar, the President of Somali Region in Ethiopia, has supported the deployment of government soldiers to Tigray.

His remarks follow the decision by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia to declare a state of emergency in the opposition-ruled region.

Prime Minister Ahmed accused the local government in Tigray of “crossing the red line” by attacking government troops in the region.

He also accused them of attempting to “loot military assets.”

Consequently, Ahmed together with the Federal Council of Ministers opted to deploy soldiers to Tigray to “save the country.”

Now, Omar has backed Ahmed’s decision.

While offering his support, he also urged the people in the region, especially all Somalis, to “stop spreading false information.”

Omar assumed leadership of the Somali Region in Ethiopia after Prime Minister Ahmed’s administration arrested Abdi Iley, his predecessor.
