President Qoorqoor Visits Mogadishu after Khaire’s Ouster

President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor of Somalia’s semiautonomous state of Galmudug is in Mogadishu for an official tour a few days after Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire’s ouster.

Qoorqoor led a delegation of top officers in his administration to Somalia’s capital where he is expected to hold several meetings.

Members of Parliament, Senators, and cabinet ministers from the Federal Government of Somalia were at the Aden Adde International Airport to welcome Qoorqoor’s team.

Qoorqoor’s visit takes place three days after the House of Representatives voted to kick Prime Minister Khaire out of office on Saturday.

Lawmakers accused Khaire of supervising a government that was unable to maintain security around the country.

They also blamed the government’s failure to organize one-person-one-vote elections on time as per the constitution on the ousted Prime Minister.

Qoorqoor is scheduled to meet President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to discuss several issues, including the appointment of Mahdi M. Gulaid as the Acting Prime Minister.

Qoorqoor and Farmaajo will then talk about the second round of Dhusamareb talks that are expected to kick off in August between FGS and Federal Member States.
