President Said Deni has met with media executives in Puntland.
On Wednesday evening, the newly elected president of Somalia’s oil-rich state received executives representing local media in his Garowe office.
The meeting is the first of its kind since Deni’s election as President last month.
Several media executives were at the meeting and these included Mohamed Dahir, the Chairman of Media Association of Puntland (MAP).
Additionally, many key stakeholders, including the board of directors of local media, attended the meeting too.
President Deni’s office the symposium sought to identify ways in which the new administration could cooperate with the media.
Safety of the journalists also received much attention. The symposium also tackled the inability of journalists to access information from government officers and offices.
MAP shared their concerns with the newly appointed administration. It said, “We hope the meeting would help create a friendly and secure working environment for all journalists.”
For years, journalists in Puntland and the wider Somalia have endured intimidation and reprisals from government officers while working in fear.
