Pressure from AU Forces Farmaajo and Uhuru to Dialogue

Intense pressure from the African Union (AU) has forced President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Somalia and Kenya respectively into dialogue.
They embraced dialogue as a solution for the growing diplomatic spat between them.

Farmaajo and Kenyatta agreed to embrace dialogue when they met at the 38th Session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
IGAD held an Extra Ordinary Session in Djibouti on December 20.

The session was held to discuss the letter of protest that Somalia submitted to IGAD against Kenya for “interference in its internal affairs.”
Sources revealed that Sunday’s meeting between Farmaajo and Uhuru was “difficult.”

Additionally, the quick intervention by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Ethiopia and Djibouti respectively salvaged the situation.
