Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Fails to Mediate Dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has failed in his efforts to mediate the dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia.

Since ascending power on April 2018, PM Abiy has attempted to bring the leaders of the two nations together after years of strained relations.

Initially, his attempts proved somewhat successfully. However, the talks have stalled causing some to fear that the two nations would continue being at loggerheads.

The latest attempt to bring President Musa Bihi Abdi of Somaliland and President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia collapsed when Egypt supplied Somalia with a cache of weapons.

Security experts in the region say the weapons are a huge threat to the peace of all nations in the country. Somaliland also castigated Egypt for such a brazen act of defiance.

Egypt and Ethiopia have not been in good terms since the latter nation began constructing a dam along River Nile, an act the North African state considers a threat to its citizens.
