A day after the Federal Parliament ousted him from office, Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has agreed to step down for the sake of national harmony.
On Saturday, 170 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted for the no confidence motion against Prime Minister Khaire.
President Mohamed Farmaajo immediately accepted parliament’s decision and promised to appoint a new Prime Minister.
Khaire has now accepted the decision too.
In his address to the nation, the now ex-Prime Minister said he would be stepping down from the premiership.
He expressed his desire not to be part of a leadership that causes political, social, economic, and security upheaval in the country.
Nevertheless, he also blasted the “illegality” and “unconstitutionality” of the no confidence motion by parliament.
