Protests and intense gunfire have rocked Beledweyne, the administrative capital of HirShabelle region for yet another day.
The protests have continued non-stop since the region held its presidential elections in November 2020.
Members of the public opposed to the election of Ali Guudwaale as the new President of HirShabelle have taken to the streets to voice their dissatisfaction with his victory.
Guudlaawe is seen as more of a President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo loyalist.
General Abukar Hud has been at the forefront of leading the armed protests against Guudlaawe’s election and what they see as Mogadishu’s interference in its affairs.
Hud’s forces have already forced their way into the center of the city from their bases.
His forces have reportedly claimed critical parts of the city, which include the airport and two neighborhoods, Koshin and Hawa Taako.
