Authorities in Puntland and Galmudug announced joint security operations against Al-Shabaab in the two regional states.
The two regions promised to launch the operations to eradicate the presence of the militants from Bacadweyne, Hobyo District.
Al-Shabaab recently moved into the region and declared that their militants would now be in control.
They moved into the region following reports that Somali National Army (SNA) troops had withdrawn from the area.
While signing the agreement, officials from both regions confirmed that they would not allow political differences at the federal level to interfere with this arrangement.
They promised to share intelligence and investigate Al-Shabaab jointly.
