Puntland and Jubbaland Release Joint Statement on Elections Agreement in Dhusamareb

Puntland and Jubbaland, two of Somalia’s Federal Member States that did not attend Dhusamareb III talks, have released a joint statement on the agreement reached this week.

Leaders of the two semiautonomous states, Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe and Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni, say the deal is only for those who were present.

In this regard, they refer to Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), which President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo represented.

The joint statement also refers to HirShabelle, represented by President Mohamed Abdi Waare, and Galmudug, which President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor represented.

Southwest state’s President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen was also at the talks.

Essentially, Madobe and Deni have refused to recognize any of the agreements reached and signed at the latest round of talks between FGS and FMS.
