Puntland and Jubbaland Support Decision by Somalia’s Upper House on Upcoming Polls

The regional governments of two semiautonomous states in Somalia – Puntland and Jubbaland – have supported the decision the country’s Upper House took on the upcoming polls.

This week, the Upper House promised not to rest until it finds a solution to the problems around the October 2020 and February 2021 elections.

Furthermore, the Upper House rejected the 2021 Election Bill that the Lower House had approved.

According to members in Somalia’s upper chamber of federal parliament, the new bill is much different from the one the two houses agreed on earlier.

The Jubbaland administration said it supported Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi resolution to set aside the new bill because it is full of falsehoods.

On its part, Puntland said it supports the efforts of Speaker Abdullahi to bring the Federal Government of Somalia and the Federal Member States to the table to discuss the upcoming polls.
