Puntland and Jubbaland Urge FGS to Resolve Issues Blocking Implementation of September 17 Deal

Puntland and Jubbaland have urged Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to resolve issues blocking implementation of the electoral deal signed on September 17, 2021.

The two regional states spoke a few hours after the announcement that Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble signed a deal with regional state leaders.

On February 26, Roble met regional state leaders from HirShabelle, Galmudug, and Banadir.

Several opposition candidates vying in the upcoming presidential elections were also present.

Puntland and Jubbaland praised the efforts by Prime Minister Roble, the regional state leaders, and opposition candidates to negotiate the deal.

However, they feel that it would be much better to eradicate issues preventing implementation of the September 17 agreement.

Both Jubbaland and Puntland said that the Thursday deal reduces some of the heat that has been building up over the last few months.
