In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Puntland Darawish Forces successfully killed 10 ISIS militants in the rugged Al-Miskaad mountain range in northeastern Somalia. The operation, carried out today, targeted known ISIS hideouts in the remote and mountainous terrain often used by the group for shelter and strategic advantage.
According to Puntland security officials, the offensive was part of a broader campaign to eliminate extremist elements threatening the region’s stability and to prevent ISIS from regaining strength in the area. The Darawish Forces reportedly seized weapons, ammunition, and intelligence materials during the raid.
Al-Miskaad Mountains have long been a refuge for armed militant groups due to their harsh and inaccessible geography. However, Puntland authorities have intensified military campaigns in recent months to disrupt terrorist activities and safeguard local communities.
This latest success is seen as a morale boost for regional forces and a critical blow to ISIS’s operations in Somalia, as it comes amid increasing international and local efforts to root out extremism in the Horn of Africa.
