Puntland has elected new senators in the Upper House elections that were conducted in the region on Wednesday, August 11.
Abdirahman Farole, a former President of Puntland, was among the leaders elected to represent this regional state in the Upper House.
Farole defeated Mohamed Osman Olad after garnering 54 votes to his opponent’s 11.
The second Senate seat went to Mohamed Ali Yusuf who won unopposed after his sole rival – Kawsar Abdullahi Hirsi – withdrew from the race at the last minute.
Mohamed Abdi Osman Majino also won his seat after Mohamed Geedi Mohamud pulled out of the polls. Majino is the current Puntland Minister of Ports.
Other winners include Abdullahi Ali Hirsi, Abdisamad Yusuf Mohamed, Dahir Ayanle Said, Farhan Ali Hussein, Seynab Ismail Mohamed, and Abdiqani Gelle Mohamed.
Samira Mohamud Haji and Sareedo Mohamed won their respective seats too.
Puntland is now the first Federal Member State (FMS) to complete the elections for all its senators.
Jubaland and Southwest, which were the first to hold senatorial polls last week, only did so for a few seats.
