Puntland regional forces carried out a security operation against the local affiliation of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The security forces carried out the operation on January 3, 2021.
Military sources confirmed that the security operation specifically targeted Turmasale, Timirshe and other surrounding areas.
Puntland has a significant presence of ISIS militants.
The militants have been responsible for a wave of terror attacks in the region over the last few months, especially as the region prepares for elections.
Generally, Somalia is headquarters to Al-Shabaab militants but ISIS affiliates have also cropped out in various parts of the country.
Puntland’s security forces took their operation deep into the hills of Al-Miskat to identify and apprehend ISIS militants.
