Puntland Hosts First Geospatial Conference to Advance Digital Development

Garowe – Puntland achieved a key milestone in its modernization drive on 22 June 2025, as its first-ever Geospatial Conference brought together top government officials, international partners, and the private sector to explore new frontiers of data-driven development and digital transformation.

The conference was hosted by the Inter-Ministerial Coordination Committee of Puntland, with support from the European Union in Somalia and Food and Agriculture Organisation Somali Water and Land Information Management (FAO SWALIM).

Attendees included Puntland’s Vice President, cabinet ministers, development partners, local businesses, and technology experts.

The event focused on leveraging geospatial data to improve decision-making, boost service delivery, and promote sustainable growth.

Speakers underscored that investing in geospatial technologies can enhance public planning, resource management, and climate adaptation.

The conference was hailed as a significant step toward integrating geospatial solutions across Puntland’s institutions, paving the way for more transparent, efficient, and inclusive governance.
