Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni has thrown his weight behind the bid by Ms. Marwa Abdi Bashir Hagi for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) presidency.
Deni said that he supports the bid by Ms. Hagi.
His comments came in the wake of reports by Speaker Sheikh Adan Madobe that Ms. Hagi had withdrawn her candidature.
Ms. Hagi represents the interests of Puntland in the House of the People (Lower House).
She is competing for the seat against three other women legislators from other African nations.
Ms. Hagi refuted the announcement by Speaker Madobe of the Lower House that she had withdrawn from the race.
