The regional state of Puntland has listed the eight political parties that are eligible to participate in the upcoming local elections.
Puntland announced the parties through the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC).
On Monday, TPEC announced that it had already approved the eight parties and the only task left is to issue recognition certificates to them.
The approval comes in the wake of last week’s amendments to the constitution.
In the past, only three parties were allowed to take part in Puntland’s polls. The recent changes to the constitution pushed the number to more than that.
