Puntland Parents Urged to Stop Practices Harming That Harm Girls

The regional Ministry of Women Development and Family Affairs has urged parents in Puntland have been urged to stop practices that are harmful to their girls.

Puntland parents were urged to be careful with practices that pose a health risk to their daughters.

The women development and family affairs ministry issued this warning on October 14.

Together with the World Bank, the ministry listed forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) as two of the most harmful practices against girls in the region.

Furthermore, it urged all stakeholders to stand with organizations that seek to educate parents and the community on issues affecting girls, such as violence against women and girls.

Officials from the ministry said this during a sensitization campaign in Garowe.
