Beileh Discusses Somalia’s Ongoing Economic Reforms with IMF

Dr. Abdirahman Beileh, Somalia’s Minister of Finance, held discussions on the economic and fiscal reforms the country is carrying out with a management team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The discussions between the finance minister and IMF’s management team took place on Monday, October 19. It was held online as part of the measures imposed by the Federal Government of Somalia to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Somalia has been carrying out several economic and fiscal reforms, which have already attracted praises from the country’s international partners. The reforms led to the cancellation of the country’s debts by some of its longtime lenders.

Dr. Beileh called the discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings between Somalia and its international partners and lenders, “fruitful.” He confirmed that they also discussed ways of strengthening the ongoing reforms.
