Two top police officers who were caught on a video that went viral beating up women have been suspended, authorities have announced.
A video clip showing two cops beating two women emerged and caused hue and cry among the residents of Puntland.
The cops were identified as Osman Ahmed Dhalac and Omar Hiirad Kaatun, the Deputy Commander of Karkaar Regional Police and Commander of Qardho Central Police respectively.
The clip, which was dated June 8, 2020, implicated the two senior police officers of directly torturing the women.
Lately, incidents of police officers abusing their powers against members of the public have increased in frequency.
Consequently, authorities have been forced to take punitive measures against the offending officers to bolster relationship between law enforcers and the public.
Dhalac and Kaatun are two of the most senior officers to be caught committing criminal acts against members of the public in recent months.
