Puntland President Changes Travel Plans to Dhusamareb over Security Scare

President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland changed his travel plans to Dhusamareb at the last minute over a security scare.

Deni was to take a flight to Dhusamareb where the consultative meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) was to start on February 1.

However, he was forced to change his plans and travel to Adado instead.

At the time, Deni was traveling by air to Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State.

Instead, his place was rerouted to Adado, a city in Galgadud following reports of a possible security breach.

Security agents then put him in a bulletproof vehicle before transporting him by road to the Galmudug capital.

The incident took place on February 2.

On Monday night, mortar shell attacks were reported in Dhusamareb a few hours after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble arrived.

On Tuesday, Galmudug’s President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor traveled by road to meet Deni’s entourage outside Dhusamareb.

The two leaders then traveled to the venue of the FGS-FMS meeting together.
