Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni has released a list of the names of candidates interested in vying for the Upper House seats in the region.
In his list, President Deni has omitted the names of nine former senators.
Abdirashid Sharmake, a former Prime Minister of Somalia, is among the prominent people in the region whose names don’t appear in the new list.
Interestingly, Deni has shown his commitment to the 30 percent women quota by reserving three of the 11 seats to women-only candidates.
Some of the former senators who never made the list include Mahdi Sheikh Nuur, Sahido Hassan Osman, Shukri Adan, Mohamud Mashruuh, and Abdirizak Osman Jurile.
Others are Abdisalan Haji Mohamud and Hodan Mohamud Osman.
Deni cleared only two former senators to contest the polls. These are Farhan Ali Hussein and Abdirahman Mohamed Mohamud Farole.
