President Said Abdullahi Deni of Somalia’s semiautonomous state of Puntland has announced plans to boycott the meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia had announced plans to meet with the leaders of FMS in Mogadishu from July 5-8. The news was not well received around the country, especially by several leaders of the federal states.
According to them, Farmaajo should have announced the meeting before the Chairperson of National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC), Halima Ismail Ibrahim, which took place on June 27, 2020.
President Deni’s withdrawal from the meeting is likely to create more doubts about it. Other leaders could follow suit thus rendering the meeting inconsequential and leaving the issues they were to talk about unresolved.
