Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Puntland has submitted its list of electoral poll representatives to Mogadishu.
Last week, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble urged Federal Member States (FMS) to submit their list of representatives fast as time was running out.
In September, Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and FMS agreed to appoint regional electoral bodies to oversee the upcoming elections.
Both sides signed an agreement that exempts the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) from taking charge of the upcoming polls.
On Thursday, October 22, Puntland forward its list of two representatives to the Federal Election Commission.
It also forwarded names of two individuals to represent its interests in the Electoral Disputes Resolution Commission.
The two representatives to the polls body are Abdiweli Tima-Adde and Muse Gelle while Burhan Elmi Filig and one of Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni’s advisors.
It is unclear when regional leaders from Galmudug, Southwest, HirShabelle, and Jubbaland also plan to forward their lists.
Prime Minister Roble had given them up to Tuesday October 20 to submit their preferred representatives.
