Puntland Prepares to Host Major State-Building Gathering

Garowe, Puntland – President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland announced that his government will organize a gathering in Garowe to address Somalia’s state-building process and identify viable approaches to current political difficulties.

In his address, President Deni stated that the event will unite Somali specialists and academics to offer recommendations independent of political considerations, pursuing a more research-informed methodology for state-building matters.

“The Puntland administration intends to collaborate with Somali possessing expertise in state formation and convene this conference in Garowe to methodically investigate the obstacles confronting Somalia’s state-building,” Deni explained.

He further noted, “While politicians might pursue different objectives, we seek rationality to steer the process and stop personal ambition and sentiment from influencing governance. This is the function we believe Somali experts and intellectuals should undertake.”

Puntland, recognized as Somalia’s earliest Federal State, is presently experiencing a political impasse with the federal administration in Mogadishu, having terminated all collaborative efforts in March 2024 due to disagreements over constitutional matters and claims of excessive federal authority.
