The Puntland administration has vowed to stop recognizing Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo as the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia from February 8.
Farmaajo’s term as the President of Somalia expires on February 8.
Ideally, the country should have already held presidential elections or made adequate plans for the polls but this appears far from likely.
On Sunday, Abdullahi Tima-Adde, Puntland’s Minister of Information, said that the local administration would stop recognizing Farmaajo as the legitimate Somali president.
Farmaajo’s constitutional mandate ends on Monday midnight.
Tima-Adde said that Puntland, under President Said Abdullahi Deni, would only refer to Farmaajo as “ex-President of Somalia.”
