Mohamed Abdi Hashi, a former President of the Puntland State, has died in Nairobi. Hashi died on Saturday morning while receiving treatment.
He served as the President of the semiautonomous state of Puntland between 2004 and 2005.
During the 1990s, Hashi also led the United Somali Party (USP) as its President. He is one of the founders of the state of Puntland.
President Said Abdullahi Deni, the current president of Puntland, conveyed news of his demise to the nation.
Together with other government leaders, President Deni sent messages of condolences to the family and friends of the former Puntland leader.
