Qatar Denies Claims it Supports NISA Financially through Yasin

Qatar has denied reports that it has been supporting Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) financially.

The Qatari government denied claims made recently by Stephen Schwartz, a former United States Ambassador to Somalia.

Schwartz made these claims in a recent interview with the Voice of America (VOA).

However, Qatar rushed to deny those claims.

Qatar admitted that it has strong bilateral relations with the Federal Republic of Somalia, though.

It denied that it was sending funds to NISA through Fahad Yasin.

Currently, Yasin is the NISA Director and one of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s closest confidantes.

Nevertheless, Qatar admitted that it routinely supports Somalia’s budget.

In 2019, the Middle East nation gave Somalia over US$20 million to support the East African country’s annual budget.
