The Qatari Embassy in Ethiopia has deleted a tweet that referred to Somaliland as a republic.
The embassy posted the “offending” tweet on Twitter on March 21.
In it, the Embassy referred to a meeting between Hamad Mohammed Al-Dosari and Mohamed Ahmed.
Al-Dosari is the Qatari Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union (AU).
Ahmed is Somaliland’s Ambassador to Ethiopia.
In the tweet, the Embassy referred to the meeting between the Qatari Ambassador and the Ambassador of the Republic of Somaliland to Ethiopia.
Qatari Embassy might have deleted the tweet to avoid offending Somalia, which believes that Somaliland is in its territory.
