President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, who is also known as Qoorqoor, has launched an exercise to collect all undeclared and unregistered rifles in the Galmudug State.
Qoorqoor said that the purpose of the exercise is to disarm clan militias in the state and reduce the insecurity that threatens the stability of the region.
During a speech delivered in Kalkacyo, President Qoorqoor said, “We have launched a major operation to disarm clan militia in Galmudug state starting today.”
He also confirmed that security authorities are tasked with the job of collecting all illegal firearms in the hands of the militia too.
Lately, clashes between different clans have caused the deaths of more than 50 people in the state while leaving dozens more with various degrees of injuries.
Additionally, he assured members of clan militia that those who surrender their weapons to security forces would be recruited into the regional force.
