River Shabelle Near Beledweyne Rises to 6.95 Meters Amid Heavy Rainfall

River Shabelle near Beledweyne town has risen to 6.95 meters as the region experiences heavy rainfall.

On Friday, the federal Ministry of Energy and Water Resources released a report indicating that Beledweyne received heavy rainfall over the past 15 hours.

The rainfall resulted in a high streamflow.

Consequently, all the rainwater found its way to the River Shabelle thus raising its water levels to dangerous levels.

The ministry appealed to local residents to watch out for floods in case the river bursts its banks.

Various organizations in the country and beyond projected that Somalia would experience heavy rains and floods as the rainy season kicks off in April. It is expected to last until May.
