River Shabelle has broken its banks due to the ongoing heavy downpour and caused floods that have destroyed over 1,000 homes in Baledweyne.
Authorities have listed the most affected villages as Kooshin, Xaawo Taako, Hawlwadaad, and Buundoweyn.
Consequently, hundreds of families have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge on higher grounds.
The flooding comes a day after Governor Ali Jeyte Osman of Hiran State warned aid agencies from distributing foods in regions outside Baledweyne.
Last year, floods in the same region killed around 10 people while damaging several structures and destroying people’s livelihoods.
