Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble held discussions on elections with a presidential candidate from the opposition.
Roble met Dahir Mohamud Gelle, the leader of Dan Qaran Party, on January 9, 2021.
Gelle has added his name to the list of candidates vying to take over from President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, whose first term in office expires on February 2021.
The Saturday meeting between the Prime Minister and Gelle was the latest in a series of discussions he plans to hold with presidential candidates from the opposition.
Roble and Gelle spoke about the need of holding credible and peaceful elections in Somalia.
Furthermore, they also discussed the importance of holding transparent elections, as this would make the result easier for voters to accept.
The Prime Minister’s meeting with Gelle took place a few hours after he informed the country that elections would proceed on schedule.
