Roble Opens National Drought Conference in Mogadishu

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has opened the National Drought Conference in Mogadishu.

The conference kicked off in the nation’s capital on February 21.

According to Prime Minister Roble, the purpose of the conference is to address emergency response to the drought that threatens millions of lives in Somalia.

Somalia is currently in the middle of a devastating drought that has left more than 200,000 households displaced in various parts of the country.

Leaders from the Federal Member States (FMS) are also attending the conference.

During his opening speech, Roble decried the worsening drought.

He said that the drought has now reached “unprecedented levels” thus occasioning a massive humanitarian crisis.
