Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has ordered the release of $11.7 million from government coffers to help the victims of the Hargeisa market inferno.
Waaheen Market in Hargeisa, the Somaliland capital, went up in flames on the night of April 1.
Consequently, more than 2,000 traders saw their business premises go up in flames and their products destroyed in the fire.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Roble ordered the government to release the funds for supporting the traders who lost their livelihoods.
This follows the earlier directive by President Muse Bihi Abdi for the Somaliland government to release $1 million to help the traders.
While issuing this directive, Roble was also quick to add that the funds are part of the aid that international partners designated for development projects in Somaliland.
