Roble Promises to Safeguard 30 Percent Women Representation

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has promised to safeguard the 30 percent representation quota for women leaders in Somalia.

Roble made this promise when he addressed the Somali Partnership Forum (SPF) on Monday, December 7.

He said that the country would hold indirect elections, as previously agreed between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).

FGS and FMS signed an electoral agreement on September 17, 2020.

They agreed to form regional electoral commissions and caucuses to ensure that elections take place on schedule.

Roble reiterated the government’s commitment towards holding timely elections.

For decades, women in the East African nation have demanded increased representation in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
