Roble Receives Backing from Opposition Leaders for Expelling AU Ambassador

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has received the backing of opposition leaders for expelling a senior African Union (AU) diplomat from Somalia.

The opposition leaders, who are vying in the upcoming presidential elections, released a statement dated April 9 publicizing their support for Prime Minister Roble.

They met under the auspices of the Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC).

According to the leaders, Prime Minister Roble was right to declare Ambassador Francisco Madeira persona non grata.

Roble had accused Madeira of engaging in acts that compromise his status in Somalia.

Their support is timely considering that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has already rejected Prime Minister’s decision to expel Madeira from the country.

During their Friday meeting, the opposition candidates also called for a speedy conclusion of the election process.
