Roble Remorseful over Recent Clashes between Government and Opposition in Mogadishu

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has expressed remorse at the recent clashes between the government and opposition in Mogadishu.

On February 18, fighting broke out in the nation’s capital between government forces and security guards loyal to opposition presidential candidates.

The fighting resumed on Friday morning as opposition tried to hold their anti-government rally at Daljirka Dahson Monument in Mogadishu.

Unconfirmed reports show that over 20 people were either killed or injured in the clashes.

Prime Minister Roble said that the government “tried its best to avoid the clashes.”

Furthermore, he said that Somalis of all backgrounds are entitled to peaceful demonstrations, according to the country’s constitution.

However, he condemned armed demonstrations.

Roble reminded Somalis that elections would take place soon while urging them not to allow anyone to destroy the peace that currently prevails in the country.
