Roble Warns of Surge in COVID-19 Cases as Large Gatherings Increase

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has warned the public of a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.

According to Roble, the surge in the cases is due to large gatherings of people being witnessed in different parts of the country.

Consequently, he has reminded members of the public to stay away from large gatherings.

Roble’s warning comes a few days after the opposition announced plans to stage an anti-government protest in Mogadishu on February 19.

On Tuesday, Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, stated that a second wave of the deadly COVID-19 virus had hit the country.

Her statement comes after more patients were reportedly admitted at De Martini Hospital in Mogadishu over COVID-19.

She made the statement while providing details of the latest COVID-19 numbers.

By Tuesday, Somalia had recorded 90 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally of patients diagnosed with the disease to 5,273.
