Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) had condemned the five-year imprisonment of the owner of Astan TV.
The government of Somaliland arrested Abdimanan Yusuf, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of privately owned Astan TV, last month.
Earlier this month, a court in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, sentenced him to a jail term of five years.
Further, the court also ordered the closure of his TV station.
However, Reporters Without Borders issued a press statement condemning his arrest.
RSF also asked the government to set him free immediately without conditions. It also urged authorities to reopen Astan TV unconditionally.
