Salah Ahmed Jama Concludes Somali Language Academy Conference

MOGADISHU — The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, presided over the closing ceremony of the Regional Somali Language Academy (AGA) conference on Thursday.

The four-day event, organized by the Federal Government in Mogadishu, attracted scholars, dignitaries, and cultural envoys from across East Africa to discuss the future of the Somali language.

Cross-Border Representation

High-ranking officials attended the closing session, including the Federal Minister of Education, Farah Abdulkadir.

Regional delegates also participated, highlighting the academy’s cross-border importance. Notable attendees included Salad Dhagar Yusuf, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism from Ethiopia’s Somali Region, and Kenyan envoy Ali Afey.

Strategic Objectives

During the summit, committee members held intensive discussions on standardizing and advancing the Somali language under the AGA framework. Key topics included:

  • Enhancing linguistic research capabilities.

  • Preserving cultural heritage.

  • Improving collaboration among member states.

The proceedings produced a comprehensive communiqué that outlines the academy’s strategic plan for the next three years.

Academy leaders, including Chairman Ma’allin Said Salah and Deputy Chairman Ismail Abdi Ahmed, expressed their dedication to implementing the resolutions, which establish clear objectives for promoting the language throughout the Horn of Africa.
