The second wave of COVID-19 infections that have hit Somalia left one of the country’s best and most well-equipped hospitals in dire straits.
Reports indicate that De Martini, one of a very small group of hospitals capable of treating patients for COVID-19, is seriously overwhelmed by the latest developments.
Dr. Abdirizak Yussuf Jalaludeen, Director of De Martini Hospital, confirmed this during a media briefing.
In his press conference, Dr. Jalaludeen said that the hospital has been receiving an influx of COVID-19 patients transferred from other institutions.
He also mentioned a growing number of people in the capital city complaining of flu-like symptoms.
Dr. Jalaludeen said that the situation in the capital is quite gloomy.
According to Dr. Jalaludeen, the situation worsened when people started attending football matches in large groups.
He also mentioned the large public gatherings as a factor that caused the second wave to hit the East African nation.
