A special operation at Arabow by the US-trained Danab forces saw senior members of Al-Shabaab killed in a deadly shootout.
The Al-Shabaab operatives were killed while meeting at the area that is 50kms to the west of the town of Buale.
Ismail Abdimalik, who is the Chief of Danab, identified the dead Al-Shabaab operative as Abu Ayman, a foreign jihadist who has been working with the extremists for some time.
The agenda of the group that has close links to Al-Qaeda remains unclear.
Danab forces, who are a special US-trained troop, are said to be planning another raid in the surrounding villages as a measure to clamp down on the extremists’ operation in the region.
Apart from Ayman, Chief Abdimalik said the operation also killed two other militants. He said a “fierce gunfight” ensued before the three extremists were killed.
Chief Abdimalik called Ayman’s death a “major victory” to Somalis and the country’s friends and partners around the globe.
