A senior Al-Shabaab operative surrendered to security forces in Mogadishu.
Security agencies confirmed that Abdirahman Macalin Ahmed alias Abu-Sacid surrendered to government forces on Sunday.
Abu-Sacid has served in Al-Shabaab for close to 16 years.
His defection to the government side does not augur well for the militant group.
For close to two decades, Abu-Sacid served as a judge in the group’s sham courts while advising Godane, the deceased leader of the terrorist organisation.
